AN OVERTURNED lorry could have caused a “major catastrophe”, a concerned councillor has said.

Cllr Steve Churchman, who represents Dolbenmaen, has called for action on a dangerous stretch of the A487 after a lorry careered through a hedge and ended up in a field, on the “death trap” road near Garndolbenmaen.

The crash occurred last Wednesday, the latest in a list of potentially serious incidents that Cllr Churchman is desperate to prevent.

Now Cllr Churchman is demanding the Trunk Road Agency take action as the road is a “tragedy waiting to happen”, especially during wintry conditions.

“Accidents are regular events here, mostly fairly minor but we have had at least one potentially serious injury and one fatality in recent years,” he told the Cambrian News.

“Undoubtedly, the Welsh Government will be aware of the lorry overturning at Glan Byl early Wednesday morning.

“I have been urging them to act for a number of years, listing the accidents that have occurred and warning of the potential for more serious ones, urging the Welsh Government to act.

“They are responsible for this road as it is designated as a trunk road.”
