Madam,
May I take this opportunity to thank all those who supported me at the recent county council elections in the Llandysul ward.
I felt privileged to have been given the opportunity to help the people of my home village.
While I congratulate Keith Evans on being elected, I would like to take issue with some of the statements in his election leaflet, to defend my own record as a councillor but also the work done by so many members of our community.
He suggests that the council closed the library, swimming pool and leisure centre. While it is correct to say that funding was withdrawn, he ignores the fact that I called meetings in Llandysul to inform the public and to meet the challenge.
The people of Llandysul responded magnificently.
I was with the WI and others who worked tirelessly, protesting in lashing rain outside the council offices in order to keep the library open, and we succeeded.
The library was still open when I lost the election.
Similarly, the trustees and many supporters continue to work tirelessly to raise money to keep the swimming pool open and, recently, there have been many positive developments.
I do feel that Keith Evans should have acknowledged the contribution of all these people. I felt so proud to have represented them and to have worked with them.
Much of the hard work has already been done and I wish Keith Evans all the very best in the not inconsiderable task of fulfilling his promise of “re-energising” Llandysul.
Diolch yn fawr i chi gyd am eich cefnogaeth.
Yours etc,
Peter Evans, Llandysul.
