DWYFOR Meirionnydd MP Liz Saville Roberts has called for a multi-agency review into drainage and flood defence systems following the severe flooding at Porthmadog Football Club.
Mrs Saville Roberts has called for tougher measures to mitigate the effects of persistent flood damage.
At the height of the flooding, the buildings at Porthmadog’s ground were inundated with water, with the town’s astro turf pitch also suffering considerable damage.
Mrs Saville Roberts met with Porthmadog Football Club chairman, Phil Jones, and Rob Jones from Clwb Chwaraeon Madog to discuss the damage caused by the recent floods.
The MP will also be raising the matter with Natural Resources Wales and the Welsh Government to see what can be done to alleviate the problem.
She said: “There are real concerns that floods at Y Traeth and Porthmadog Sports Club are worsening year on year.
“I think it is vitally important to know whether the recent flooding was a one-off occurrence or whether there are steps that could and should be taken to guard against such events happening in the future.
“I’d like to extend my gratitude to the local community and people from further afield who’ve supported CPD Porthmadog and all those affected by the recent floods. I’m sure that support will continue as the club looks towards re-mediating the flood damage.”
