A NEWLY installed barrier has become “a terrible blot in an outstanding place of beauty” according to an outraged Barmouth resident.

The barrier, located at Barmouth’s harbour, was constructed recently and has upset Danny Brooks, a resident of the harbour for 40 years.

Mr Brooks says the barrier is ugly and that there was little or no public consultation about the new installation.

Mr Brooks said: “It does not take a genius to see that this is a terrible blot on an outstanding place of beauty.

“The residents and businesses in the town spend a great deal of time and money to make our streets and public areas attractive to everyone.

“The barrier has been installed in a conservation area with little consultation.

“The mess made of the surrounding paving and tarmac is disgusting.”

“The barrier only has planning permission by virtue of certain council departments having ‘permitted development rights’,” Mr Brooks added.

But Gwynedd Council says the barrier is both necessary and suitably authorised - although they are considering toning down the colour after the complaints.
