Camera club

There was an extra meeting of the New Quay Camera Club on Thursday, because members had expressed an interest in light room issues, and Gareth Parry gave an enlightening introduction to the software, for enhancing and storing images.

The club meets on the first and third Thursday of each month, in the Memorial Hall, lower floor, rear entrance, at 7.30pm.

The next meeting will be on 29 October and will be an informal, still life workshop.

If you have an interest in photography, whether novice, or more adept, and would like to share your interest with like-minded friends, you will be made very welcome,

Walkers

The group chose Scanda Vale between Alltwalis and Llanpumpsaint as their destination in October.

On a very wet Saturday morning, 14 hardy walkers and three dogs set off up a wooded track from Alltwalis to Gwarcwm.Thankfully, the weather improved as drizzly rain gave way by afternoon to sunshine.

They walked along farm tracks and minor roads via Cefnmaes and Graigfryn to Scanda Vale community, a peaceful Hindu community which reaches out to all faiths and provides retreat and hospice facilities.

The walkers spent a fascinating viewing the temples and the animals which are sacred to the community.

Sadly, it was impossible to see Valli, the female elephant, as she had already been out for her daily walk and was drying off in her quarters.

The group was allowed to eat their packed lunches in the covered picnic area before setting out on the second half of the walk.

Now in pleasant sunshine, the walkers climbed to the highest point at over 700 feet to enjoy glorious views over surrounding countryside on their way to Pantyllyn.

The final stage took the walkers on a quiet lane back to Gwarcwm before retracing their way through quiet woodland to Alltwalis and well deserved refreshments at the Masons Arms.

The next walk, led by Gillian and Helen Morley, will be in the Penbryn and Llangrannog area on Saturday, 21 November.
