Walkers

THE GROUP’S recent walks include a post-Christmas ramble on Monday, 28 December to work off the Christmas excesses. Morlais Davies led a group of twenty people on a fine, part sunny day on a circular walk which fin-ished with a stretch of the coastal path leading into New Quay. A very pleasant walk was completed with lunch at the Penwig Hotel.The first walk of the 2016 season took place on Saturday, 23 January when 22 walkers accompanied by five dogs travelled just south of the Preseli Hills to the Llysyfrân Reservoir and Country Park.On a dry, mild but overcast day they took the seven mile track and nature trail which encircles the reservoir. Despite a number of muddy patches following the recent rains the group thoroughly enjoyed the trip and the refreshments afterwards at the famous Tafarn Sinc, a pub and restaurant created on the site of the old Maenclochog railway station complete with a renovated station platform.The next walk on Saturday, 13 February will be a six-mile circular walk in the Llandysul area. Meet at the town car park at 10.30am.

Art Club

WAX underpainting was the topic of a workshop tackled by Art Club members on Tuesday, 26 January. Instructed by member Marion Tamsett, the task was to create an underpainting on board which would be used for a finished work using acrylic or oil pastels. The fun part was shaving wax crayons in the chosen colours to cover the boards, then melting them and seeing the stunning results which are only the base for a finished work over the top. The paintings will be completed in the next session.The club meets every Tuesday in the Yacht Club from 1.30 to 3.30pm. New members of any skill level are welcome.
