Madam,

May I, on behalf of growing numbers of loving parents and relatives of sixth-formers at Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor, Llandrillo, express an enormous ‘thank you’ to the Cambrian News for publishing the recent letters of E Roberts of South Beach, Pwllheli, highlighting Gwynedd Council’s lack of wisdom in granting planning consent for extra houses at the top of Allt Salem, the main access route to the Pwllheli college campus.

Your article and group photo were very well received by parents.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that more car journeys on precipitously steep Allt Salem, which is already car-clogged at peak times in term-time, will add to more air pollution leading to respiratory problems and damaged lungs.

Are the authorities familiar with DEFRA’s clean air strategy? No right-thinking parent wants youths to cough and wheeze their way through a thickening haze of acrid, polluted air en-route to college.

Yours etc, Wil Jones, Abererch Road, Pwllheli.
