Madam,
In defence of their practice to hand out fines of £100 each to users of Llangrannog Car Park - even if they have conclusive proof that they have paid the full parking fees but were unable to do so within 10 minutes due to a faulty ticket machine - operators One Parking Solution put forward that motorists should in such a case pay by app, text or phone.
May I point out that not everybody owns a smartphone and even if they do it is not at all certain that they can get reception at Llangrannog. That depends entirely on the provider they use. Obviously they’d give it several goes when they find that the machine is not working properly. Then it takes time to get out their mobile and possibly their glasses etc, so it is most unlikely that they’d succeed in using their mobile to pay within the required 10 minutes.
The result is that, no matter how hard they have tried, and even if they have paid the full fee, there is no way they could have avoided this atrocious £100 fine.
In my previous letter I referred to One Parking Solution’s practice as ‘daylight robbery’. With daylight fading, may I shorten this now to just ‘robbery’ full stop?
Yours etc, Wyck Gerson Lohman, Cwmtydu, Llandysul.
