A PWLLHELI metal band could lose out in a national music competition after being kicked out of their practice venue, following complaints about noise.
However, last week they were informed by one of the Brownies’ leaders that they would not be able to carry on using the venue because of numerous noise complaints from local residents.
Lead singer Aled says this decision has scuppered their chances in the final of the UK-wide Battle of the Bands competition in two weeks, held in Deeside, which could have seen them win £1,000 towards recording material.
He said: “We were thrilled when we made it through to the final of the Battle of the Bands competition where we’re in the running to win £1,000 which would help us with recording material.
“That would help us take the band to the next step, with getting gigs and getting decent recordings to send to labels.
“Through the competition it has been said that we will be included in the Mosh Against Cancer Festival in Liverpool and we may even get the chance to get on the line-up for next year’s Bloodstock too, which is massive.
“So we’re doing well for a small band from Pwllheli.
“But now someone has complained about the noise levels we have nowhere to practise at a time we need it most.
Local Pwllheli councillor, Michael Sol Owen, said he has received numerous complaints from nearby residents about the noise levels.
He said: “The band had been practising during the evening at a time when small children were trying to go to sleep so I had received numerous complaints from parents and as their councillor I had to react to this.
“I contacted one of the Brownies’ leaders who then informed the group that they could no longer use the venue.”
