A community nurse from Llandysul joined four others from Carmarthenshire to brave a charity skydive to raise funds for their service.

The Hywel Dda team of Carly Bailey, Anwen Thomas, Tina Delaney, Mel Clark and Alice Morgan were aiming to raise £2,500 for the community nursing service by taking part in the Big Thank You NHS Skydive at Swansea Airport on 25 September.

Tina, who works as a community nurse in Llandysul, said: “I am doing this skydive to give back to the health board for the amazing opportunities they have given me throughout my career.

“The health board continues to support me as I am about to embark on a new journey completing a district nursing degree.

“Raising money for these services will allow us to buy equipment which will help the community nursing service continue to treat patients at home and reduce the number of hospital admissions.”

Alice said: “After 10 amazing years of working for the NHS what better way to pay back and raise money for something I feel is so important in many people’s lives.

“I work as part of the continuing care team under St Peter’s Surgery, Carmarthen, supporting and caring for patients with complex needs in their own home.

Anwen said: “I have worked within the Continuing Care Team as a Health Care Support Worker for over three years.

“I am passionate about the community service we provide and that is why I have chosen to raise money for this area.

Mel said: “I work as a community healthcare support worker for the NHS and I feel that as I have gained so much I should give something back.

“I am nervous to be jumping out of a plane at 10,000 feet but I’m sure my work colleagues will give me a helping hand out.”

Carly said: “I have worked in the continuing care team for nearly 13 years, since it was started. Now I am training to be a nurse and will hopefully be qualified in summer next year."

Nicola Llewelyn, head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, said she wanted to wish the five community nurses all the best in their challenge.
