AN 18-year-old Ysgol Penglais singer songwriter has made it to the final of Brwydr y Bandiau, or battle of the bands, at the National Eisteddfod.

Rhys Evans will be performing in the final of Brwydr y Bandiau at the National Eisteddfod, which is being held in Tregaron, on Wednesday, 3 August.

The former Ysgol Penglais and Ysgol Uwchradd Llanidloes is hoping to study music in university in September.

As part of the Brwydr y Bandiau competition, Rhys has recorded some of his songs at the “iconic” Sain studios in Llandwrog, Gwynedd. One of the songs, ‘Eto’, was played on Radio Cymru’ Lisa Gwilym show, on 13 July, during which all four acts in the final were interviewed.

Rhys will kick off the competition on the main stage of the Eisteddfod at 3.30pm with four of his own songs.

The winner will go on to the Maes B stage on Saturday, 6 August, receive a cash price, a Radio Cymru recording sessions, and a professionally produced video.

Brwydr y Bandiau provides solo artists or bands, aged between 16 and 25, to perform original songs in Welsh, showcasing “emerging Welsh talent”.
