RESIDENTS of Parcllyn and Aberporth are being invited to take over the running of a new social club provided by the Ministry Of Defence.

Such a facility – replacing the current Aberporth Sports and Social Club – would be situated on the opposite side of the road within the existing sportsfield.

Now Aberporth Community Council is appealing for anyone interested in forming a committee to run the new facility to come forward.

Community clerk Vanessa Owens revealed in a Facebook post that councillors had recently met with MoD Estates regarding the future of the social club in Parcllyn as well as the football playing field.

“The land where the existing club and playground is located is earmarked for development,” she said.

“We have a commitment from the MoD that they are willing to provide a new community facility if we can evidence the need and there is a sustainable business model to ensure the future of any building provided.

“As a start point the community council would like to hear from anyone who would be interested in forming a committee to move this exciting opportunity for Parcllyn forward.”

Local county councillor Gethin Davies said he was confident that the new social club would be “up and running” by 2020.

“With 48 new houses planned for Parcllyn, the village is going to expand rapidly,” he said. “But the sewage system has now been brought up to the required standard and I’m certain that this new club will be in place within the next two years.

“The existing social club will remain until its replacement has been built.”

Cllr Davies said he envisioned the new club as “a community hub” offering a wide range of facilities.
