PLANS for a new retirement home in Pwllheli have received the green light with the condition that the developers contribute over £90,000 towards affordable housing.

The applicant, McCarthy and Stone Retirement Lifestyles, will now go ahead and demolish the towns former veterinary building on land near Ala Cottage, on Ala Road, and create 17 one-bedroom apartments and 13 two-bedroom apartments which will be catered for the over-60s.

The application also includes communal facilities, landscaping and car parking.

The application was deferred at last month’s Gwynedd Council planning committee in order to receive further information relating to the open market price of the units, viability matters and an explanation as to why the design was for a three-storey house.

Following the meeting, the applicant was contacted regarding viability issues and why it was not possible to obtain a higher commutative sum.

McCarthy and Stone Retirement Lifestyles then proposed an offer of £94,000 towards affordable housing which was accepted by Gwynedd Council.
