CALLS have been made to revive a dilapidated but “beautiful” area of Aberystwyth Castle to make it suitable for events.

The veranda area above the old Côr-y-Castell performance shelter at Castle Point on south promenade has become run down in recent years.

Town councillors Wendy Morris and Sue Jones-Davies noticed its potential as a spot for events after attending the Remembrance Sunday ceremony at the Cenotaph last month.

Aberystwyth Town Council has now decided to write to Ceredigion County Council asking it to “make good” the area by repairing guttering, introducing benches and repairing iron-work.

Cllr Jones-Davies told the Cambrian News this week: “We happened to walk past it after we had been to the commemoration ceremony and it struck me how beautiful it was; it is such a lovely area.

“You overlook it when you go up and down from the castle and the views are spectacular, so maybe we should look at what we can do with it.”
