MACHYNLLETH Town Council has welcomed four new councillors as it re-elected the former mayor and deputy mayor to lead for another term.

Cllr Tony Jones and Cllr Sylvia Rowlands were unanimously voted in again by fellow councillors as mayor and deputy mayor respectively.

Re-elected councillors welcomed the arrival of new members onto the council, including Cllr Noella Elliot, Cllr James Honeybill, Cllr Ann MacGarry, and Cllr James Goodband.

The Mayor Cllr Jones stated: “I would like to welcome four new councillors onto the council.

“It is a huge privilege and honour to serve in the last two years as mayor, and I would not have achieved any of it without the support of family, friends and fellow councillors — we don’t always agree but nor should we.

“We face an incredibly difficult prospect with budget cuts beyond what members of this council have ever seen, and we must face meet this challenge as a council.”

Praising the mayor, Cllr Michael Williams said: “You have done a tremendous job. You and your good lady Evelyn have represented the town in an exceptionally good, strong and positive way.”
