PLAID Cymru have held Dwyfor Meirionnydd after Liz Saville Roberts was re-elected with a majority of 4,850 votes.

The full results were as follows: Steve Churchman, Liberal Democrats, 937; Neil Fairlamb, Conservatives, 8,837; Mathew Norman, Labour, 6,273; Liz Saville Roberts, Plaid Cymru, 13,687; Frank Wykes, UKIP, 614.

Speaking after the result was announced, Mrs Saville Roberts told the Cambrian News: "I’m delighted that the electorate has shown their faith in me."

The result means that the same three parties as in 2015 gained the three top spots while the Liberal Democrats leapfrogged UKIP.

In neighbouring Arfon, Plaid Cymru’s Hywel Williams was re-elected, pipping Labour’s Mary Griffiths Clarke by just 92 votes.
