AUDITORS have praised Ceredigion County Council for slashing carbon emissions and being amongst the best authorities in Wales for recycling rates.

A range of measures to cut carbon emissions in Ceredigion have been identified by the Wales Audit Office as key to the council exceeding Welsh Government carbon reduction targets with the council also one of the best performing Welsh authorities in terms of recyc­ling.

The audit report revealed that by changing street lighting and council fleet vehicles, the council has managed to cut carbon emissions by 7.4 per cent between 2012/13 and 2013/14, the first two years of a five-year plan.

It says: “The council is successfully reducing its carbon emissions and has exceeded the Welsh Government’s annual target to reduce carbon emissions by three per cent each year from the baseline year of 2011/12."
