Maintenance work is due to begin for Machynlleth’s Roman Steps.

The route, beloved by hikers of the Wales Coast Path and Glyndwrs Way, often has water seen flowing directly over the steps.

A Powys County Council spokesperson said on the path south of Y Plas: “[The] routine maintenance work will see the drainage cleared and ruts in the steps filled in.”

Workers will however retain the pathway so it is safe for walkers whilst the works are being carried out.
