Friends and family of a Llanarth man killed in a road accident earlier this year have donated £3,100 from his funeral to Singleton Hospital’s Neonatal Unit to say thanks for his niece’s care.

Llyr Evans, 31, died when his Ford Ranger crashed on the A486 at Ffostrasol on 10 April.

In addition to his parents, Dafydd and Eirlys, Mr Evans also left a brother and sister.

But now his funeral donations have been used to buy specialist equipment after funeral director Louise Evans liaised with Singleton to find out what was needed.

Cot sheets, hats and other items for babies were also purchased along with tea and coffee and cakes and biscuits for parents and staff at the unit.

Vicky Evans, Mr Evans’ sister-in-law, said the Neonatal Unit was the cause chosen for donations as her daughter, Jessica, was born there prematurely in February 2013.

“She was born at 25 weeks, weighing a tiny 1lb 10oz,” she told the Cambrian News.

“She was Llyr’s goddaughter, who he adored, like his four other nieces and nephews – he thought the world of all of them.”
