THE Cymru-Ohio Committee – along with Cymdeithas Aberaeron Society and Cymdeithas Aberteifi Society – is hoping to hire the Keewaydin, a 60ft 100-year-old two-masted wooden ketch, for the whole week of celebration.
The committee has launched a fundraising appeal to raise the sum of £3,400 to ensure that a boat they feel symbolises the importance of ‘hiraeth’ comes to Aberaeron.
Owned by Cornish businessman Paul Welch, the Keewaydin was moored on Teifi Quay in Cardigan while it underwent renovations several years ago and is now part of his Falmouth-based company.
“We are appealing to the Welsh community here, in London, across the UK, indeed wherever Welsh-born people now are, and their friends to help us cover these costs to bring the boat over to the Welsh coast,” said a spokesperson.
“Please help by donating, no matter how small an amount, to JustGiving.com (account Nick Sawyer) – Nick was the 2017 Commodore of Aberaeron Yacht Club and is a trustee of Cymdeithas Aberteifi Society.”
