YEAR 10 pupils at Ysgol Botwnnog have organised a fundraising day for the Disasters Emergency Committee’s Coronavirus Appeal.

The youngsters wanted to help people affected by the devastating second wave of the virus in India.

Abbey Wilkinson, Gwenllian Jones and Livvy Boyd, who have been learning about humanitarian emergencies as part of their Welsh Baccalaureate, said: “When we realised how devastating the situation was in India, we wanted to raise money so that we could help.

“We created posters and Powerpoint presentations to display around the school to raise awareness, and we held a ‘wear your own clothes’ day and everyone donated. We managed to raise £500.”

Mrs Elin Huws Evans, art and Welsh Baccalaureate teacher added: “It’s great to see our pupils set out to fundraise in this way, eager to help others less fortunate in another part of the world.

“It shows the value of the Welsh Baccalaureate, a course which helps our young people grow into global citizens. The money raised will go to the Disasters Emergency Committee’s Coronavirus Appeal, who are responding to the emergency in India at the moment.”
