AN “EYESORE” has been demolished as an exciting new project in Bala builds up steam.

Plans to extend the Bala Lake Railway into the heart of the town bringing an “extra £1.5m a year into the local economy” are well on track.

Originally announced in 2016, Julian Birley, chair of the Bala Lake Railway Trust, and his associates have been working on plans to extend the line for years, but now believe they can have the work completed by 2020.

The hard work began in earnest last month.

Les Symonds lives next to the development and has been keeping an eye on proceedings.

“Over the last few weeks one of the worst eyesores in the town, the old garage and compound in Aran Street, has been completely demolished and the site cleared to make way for the construction of the new railway station to commence,” he said.
