A relay to raise money for an Aberystwyth toddler diagnosed with a rare form of cancer will set off from Blaenau Ffestiniog tomorrow morning.

Two-year-old Eken Baddeley, from Penparcau, was diagnosed with Pleuropulmonary Blastoma, a rare form of cancer of the chest and lungs, on 6 March 2020.

A scan at Bronglais showed a large white mass covering the right side of his chest, and Eken was rushed to Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital in Cardiff.

After 24 hours of surgery, Eken was awake and breathing without a ventilator, and will continue with chemotherapy at Noah’s Ark.

To raise money for the family, Elin Kirkman of Glanypwll, Blaenau Ffestiniog, has helped organise a running relay from the Gwynedd town to Aberystwyth tomorrow morning.

Also taking part are Cameron Jones, Linda Jones, Medwen Williams, Tomos Woolway, Peter Woolway, Maria Daniels, Rebeca Daniels, Kurmang Aziz Rashid, Jamie Evans, Mark Wyatt and Joe Dukes Morgan.

The first runner will set off at 5.30am, and each participant will run a portion of the route.

“I got involved because Cameron Jones, who is related to Eken, contacted me and others and arranged it.”

The group has already raised £300 but hope to increase that amount tomorrow.
