PEOPLE in a rural area near Aberystwyth fear lives are being put at risk after being left without telephone lines and internet since two weeks before Christmas.

Residents in the Llanrhystud, Llangwyryfon and Trefenter area have been without service since 12 December, and say they they have been “pushed from pillar to post” in a bid to get answers and the problem fixed.

Openreach, BT’s maintenance and fault-fixing arm, has apologised for the loss of service and said that work to fix the fault will start next week.

Resident Steve Rogers, who lives at Rhosgoch, said the lack of a telephone line, coupled with the area’s lack of mobile signal, makes the situation “dangerous”.

“How are we supposed to contact the emergency services if it is needed?” he told the Cambrian News.

“It is an absolute disgrace and we are not being told anything.

“We are at our wits’ end over this trying to get answers and trying to get the problem sorted."
