AN INSURANCE salesman has spoken of his dismay after his treasured sheepdog and family pet was stolen from the outskirts of Dolgellau.

Dylan Evans, who keeps some sheep near Llanelltyd, was dismayed to find his dog had been stolen when he went to pick her up on Wednesday evening.

Speaking to the Cambrian News, Mr Evans said: "“Mel was young but she’d still get good money, maybe £1,500 to £2,000. She’s worth more than that to me though.”

Mel, a 12-month-old Border Collie bitch, was given to Dylan almost exactly a year ago as a birthday present.

The working dog spent her nights in the family home and her days roaming outside whilst Dylan was at his day job.

Police have launched an appeal for information following the theft.

Officers say “Nell” was wearing a brown collar and was tethered on a long chain within an enclosed compound, when thieves are believed to have cut a hole in the fence and unclipped her from the chain.

Anyone with information relating to Nel is urged to call PCSO 3480 Gareth Jones at Dolgellau Police Station on 101 quoting reference RC 15180776.
