Madam,

Congratulations to your local journalist Kathryn Cummings on her revealing article “Parking fines slammed for heavy-handed approach”, in last week’s Cambrian News.

Our MP Liz Saville Roberts feels that Parking Eye’s demand for £85 for unauthorised parking outside of store opening hours in Pwllheli was inappropriate and said “A certain amount of fairness and proportionality is required”.

Parking Eye’s reply included the sentence “We operate on audited appeals and encourage people to appeal if they feel there are mitigating circumstances”.

So there! It sounds quite fair, or is it? Not a lot of people are aware of Parking Eye’s blinkered attitude to the Welsh language, to which it shows serious disrespect when it states: “Parking Eye will only accept and respond to appeals in English.” Yes, correct; those are the words on their Parking Charge Notice. You have been warned,Is the “Welsh Not” rearing its ugly head? Is Welsh the official language of Wales or is it an irrelevance? Is Wales simply a “geographical location” and should we be termed “Mid Western Britain” or “West Central Britain”?Hopefully Liz Saville Roberts will muster sufficient support to raise serious questions about the vile impertinence of these efforts to stifle the use of the Welsh language.

Yours etc

E Roberts,Cae’r Wylan,South Beach,Pwllheli.
