PEDESTRIANS in Llandysul are running the gauntlet of reckless motorists travelling through the town’s narrow streets at speeds of up to 50mph, according to a local road campaigner.

Photographer Jeremy Rundle said that, while most drivers were law-abiding and observed the 30mph limit, others chose “not to care about pedestrians or the law”.

Speaking after local police carried out speedchecks, Mr Rundle said: “It has been proposed that limits are reduced to 20mph and will come into force, but will that stop the drivers who I have personally clocked with my speed gun doing 50mph and the ones I have seen on their phones who would rather text than watch for pedestrians?

“There are speed limits for a reason. For example, in Llandysul there is only a pavement on one side of a narrow high street, yet there are shops on both sides.

“Yes, there is an intermittent pavement on the left, but not all the way up the road, meaning people, young and older, with or without prams or pushchairs, have to come out into the road to cross over or make their way to the next part of the pavement."
