A Porthmadog artist, dubbed BanksyPort, has been using street art during the Covid crisis to spread a message of thanks and positivity to the people of Porthmadog.

Fiorella Wyn said: “I had initially started this project writing quotes around town to lift people’s spirits as we were going into a possible lockdown, however the project quickly evolved into messages of thanks along with the rainbows, and a cheeky jab at Dominic Cummings.

“I was given the nickname of Banksy Port by Ysgol Eifion Wyn and it’s quickly become the best or worst kept secret identity in Porthmadog! I’m glad I can bring a little bit of joy to the local community in such a difficult time. BanksyPort will continue until the chalk runs out.”

Cllr Nia Jeffreys added: “Banksy Port has been a mystery throughout lockdown – the chalk drawings and quotes has brought joy, colour and positivity to Porthmadog in these tough times.

“Key workers, be they carers, chemists, ambulance workers, teachers, police, nurses, doctors or job centre staff have really appreciated seeing the art.

“I look forward to seeing what comes next from Banksy Port.’
