Ceredigion women born in the 1950s have teamed up with a voluntary organisation to donate goods to a local food bank.

Collections of items for Cardigan Food Bank were organised by members of Ceredigion Women Against State Pension Injustice Campaign (WASPI) at their Aberaeron meeting earlier this month and by staff at the Care Society’s offices in Cardigan and Aberystwyth.

Based in the New Life Centre on Quay Street, Cardigan Food Bank, which is non-denominational, gives free emergency parcels of at least three days’ food to people at crisis point.

“If you are struggling to put food on the table, we can help you,” said food bank manager Alan Faunch.

“First you need a voucher from a local agency like the Care Society, Citizens Advice or Social Services. If you are not in contact with these organisations please ring us on 01239 615864 or 07949 127307 and we can put you in touch.

“We can also put you in touch with food banks in Aberystwyth, Lampeter and Llandysul.

“We appreciate the goods that the WASPI women have collected for us. Donations are always very welcome.”

The Cardigan Food Bank is usually open on Mondays, 11am to 3pm, and Fridays, 11am to 2pm.

On Friday, 20 December, it will be open longer, from 10am to 4pm but closed on 27 December.

On Christmas Day a free three-course meal will be provided to all-comers at 1pm.

If possible, please book (though this is not essential) by ringing 01239 615864. For emergency help, ring 07949 127307.
