The Llandysul-based theatre company at the centre of a ‘Welsh Not’ storm has reconsidered its decision to pull out of the town, the Cambrian News has learnt.

The Hyperbole Theatre Company had intended to set up a performing arts school at the former primary school in Llynyfrân Road before a row blew up over use of the Welsh language.

This was later amended to read that Welsh would be welcome, but not in classrooms.

However, this week local county councillor Keith Evans disclosed that the company had made a ‘U-turn’ on their decision to quit the town.

“I have been speaking with various parties in order to try and reach some form of a compromise,” he told the Cambrian News.

Cllr Evans added: “At the end of the day we live in a bilingual society and hopefully a line can now be drawn under this unfortunate episode and we can guide and advise this group on working in a bilingual environment.

“And now that the dust has settled I think it is a positive sign that people wish to invest in Llandysul, particularly in view of all the amenities the town has lost in recent years.

“While I fully appreciate that this has been a delicate situation, the message we want to put out is that Llandysul is a welcoming place.”
