A NEWCASTLE Emlyn firefighter who clocked up 39 years of service with Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue has been recognised at a natio­nal awards ceremony.

Gareth Jones received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the service’s Celebrating Success awards ceremony hosted by BBC journalist Sian Lloyd at Swansea’s Brangwyn Hall.

The Lifetime Achievement Awards recognise an exceptional individual who has contributed over 30 years of service and shown outstanding dedication to the service.

Head of community safety, Karen Jones, who nominated Mr Jones, said: “Gareth joined the service in 1976 as a retained firefighter in Newcastle Emlyn Fire Station and was officer­-in-charge when he retired after­ 39 years.
