Tributes have been paid to a former vicar of Llandysul who has died in Caernarfon at the age of 78.

Rev Eric Roberts was a well liked and respected figure in Llandysul for several years prior to taking up a post in North Wales.

Local county councillor Peter Davies told the Cambrian News he had fond memories of the lifelong football fan.

“We’d often bump into one another at half-time at the Liberty Stadium,” he said.

“Having watched the Swans, Eric would invariably stop for food at Ffostrasol on the long drive back to Caernarfon.

“He was a wonderful man and hugely popular. He loved the time he spent in Llandysul and always maintained his links with the town.”

Rev Beth Davies, a former colleague, said Rev Roberts would be “greatly missed”.

“I always received great support from him over the years,” she added.

“Eric Roberts helped me to get where I am today.”

Mr Roberts, whose funeral was held in Caernarfon on Saturday, is survived by his wife, Beryl.

County councillor Keith Evans said: “Eric Roberts fitted into this community like a hand into a glove.

“He always had a smile on his face and was extremely popular.

“We extend our profound sympathies to Beryl and the rest of his family at this sad time.”
