Representatives of Plogonnec – the Brittany town twinned with Llandysul – launched a fund on hearing of the havoc wreaked by Storm Callum in parts of the town last October.

Y Pwerdy Powerhouse Community and Arts Centre bore the brunt as waters of the River Teifi rose to unprecedented levels during the storm.

Brigitte Martin from Kemper, Brittany, presented a cheque for £365 to Suzanne Hughes-Owen, secretary of The Powerhouse, following a ‘whip-round’ organised by Plogonnec Twinning Committee on hearing about the floods in a town they have been twinned with since 1988.

At one point during the storm the centre was submerged to the height of its eves and lost windows as water poured in via the balcony and front door as – in the words of one eyewitness - "the road became part of the river".

Y Pwerdy lost a considerable amount of equipment although funds were raised by a couple of benefit concerts the following month.
