VOLUNTEER car or minibus drivers are being sought to help people in need in Ceredigion.

Ceredigion Association of Voluntary Organisation and Ceredigion County Council have launched a campaign to find new drivers.

Volunteer drivers can donate as much or as little of their time as they feel able to do so.

By using their own vehicle for transporting people under Country Cars’ services, volunteer drivers will be paid as much as 45p a mile allowance which will be reimbursed along with any other expenses incurred such as parking.

Volunteer Marj Fogg said: “If you have a car, it is a great opportunity to become a volunteer driver, which allows you to get out and about, meet new people, gives some structure to your life and a chance to give something back to the community. I am really enjoying being a volunteer driver, you meet some very nice and interesting people and I would recommend this type of volunteering to anybody.”

One person being helped get about is Jean Farmer of Llandysul whose husband died about 10 years ago.

Jean said: “Country Cars have been very helpful, reliable and a great asset to people like myself who cannot drive enabling me to attend doctors, hospital and other appointments when needed. When you live in rural areas like I do, it is not always possible to access public transport so easily and therefore having services like country cars and the Royal voluntary services available is very reassuring.”
