I’d like to respond to Nikky Govier’s letter (‘Common sense has gone out of the window, Letters, 15 October), in particular to the last sentence: ‘I have no desire to live in a Stasi police state.’
Well, neither have I. And that is why I feel fortunate to live in Wales! Should the police need to take certain measures to keep the country safe, that does not make Wales a Stasi police state. No one is spied upon, marched off at gunpoint to a police station or prison, homes are not bugged, relatives not threatened or jailed and everyone can leave the country without fear of being arrested, shot at or executed.
