A STUNNING video celebrates the best of north Wales’ scenery for St David’s Day.

To celebrate free entry to Cadw sites on St David’s Day, Cadw has today released new bird’s-eye-view footage of the epic castles that line the coast of Wales.

The Welsh Government’s historic environment service is welcoming visitors to its top sites free of charge in celebration of the life of Wales’ patron saint, Dewi Sant.

The rousing film features the castles of Harlech, Caernarfon, Beaumaris and Criccieth, set to a specially commissioned rendition of the traditional Welsh love song, Ar Lan y Môr (Beside the Sea), by north Wales choir and Britain’s Got Talent finalists, Côr Glanaethwy.

Cefin Roberts, conductor of Côr Glanaethwy, said: “You could say we’re spoilt for choice when it comes to castles in Wales, growing up surrounded by so many of them!

"But this footage is a reminder of how many of these stunning sites we have on our doorstep, and we’re delighted to have lent our vocals to celebrate the true beauty of Wales’s coastline.

“There’s no song more fitting to accompany the film than Ar Lan y Môr and we hope our huge sense of pride for Wales comes through in our performance”.

Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas, tourism minister and AM for Dwyfor Meirionnydd, added: “Wales possesses a unique coastline — from our rugged, unspoiled beaches to the long-standing castles dotted along the coastline.

“And, during Wales’ Year of the Sea, this stunning footage is an excellent way to showcase Wales’s ’unfiltered’ beauty and fascinating history to the world on our national patron saint’s day.”

The following sites, which normally charge for admission, can be entered for free today: Beaumaris Castle, Caernarfon Castle, Caerphilly Castle, Castell Coch, Chepstow Castle, Conwy Castle, Criccieth Castle, Denbigh Castle, Harlech Castle, Kidwelly Castle, Raglan Castle, St Davis Bishop’s Palace, Tintern Abbey and Tretower Court & Castle.
