Llyn and Eifionydd’s annual St David’s Day celebrations has events lined up all next week in Pwllheli and beyond.

Organised by Cymdeithas Parêd Dewi Sant Pwllheli and partners, the aim is to promote the Welsh language and culture.

The celebrations kick off on Saturday with Wythnos Tapas Llyn from 24 February to 3 March with unique Welsh tapas created by local people using local ingredients, and each dish having a Welsh name.

They will be served at Ty Newydd, Aberdaron; Plas Glyn y Weddw, Llanbedrog; Caffi Meinir, Nant Gwrtheyrn; Glasu, Gwalia, Taro Deg and Whitehall, Pwllheli.

Llio Lloyd Williams of Taro Deg said: “These days, customers likes to know where our products come from and Tapas Llyn is a new and unique way of presenting local dishes for our customers.

"Some of our dishes this year will include Oinc Oink meat balls, potato pancakes with bacon and a drizzle of honey from Ynys Môn; and Wy Pendomen, mashed potatoes with red cheese and leek with a poached egg from Fferm Hirdre.

"We will also have three small desserts including a raspberry cheesecake using Llaeth y Llan yoghurt.”

Hefina Pritchard from Whitehall, added: “We have created local Welsh tapas by using local ingredients which will include Oinc Oink sausages, Welsh lamb, Cwrw Llyn beer and crab from Porth Ceiriad.”

The theme for this year’s fifth parade will be ‘Celebrating Welshness’ and it will be held on Saturday, 3 March, in Pwllheli. Wales’ children’s poet Casia Wiliam and Osian Rhys Jones, the winning bard at the 2017 Ynys Môn National Eisteddfod, will carry the large flags at the front of the parade. They will also present the Gwobrau Sêr Dewi Sant oscars for the best costumes on the day.

The Parade will finish on the Maes hosted by Morgan Jones from Trefor. Dewi Pws, Iestyn Tyne, and Gwilym Bowen Rhys will perform Cân y Parêd (Parade’s Song) with school children.

At this year’s parade there will be horses, tractors, Band Pwllheli, Batala Bangor, Magi Ann and much more. The committee would like to invite all local carnival groups, sport teams, young farmers’ clubs, choirs, local societies, primary and secondary schools and tertiary colleges to participate in the parade with their banners.

Pwllheli Library will be holding a craft session between 3pm and 4pm, on Friday, 2 March.

This year in, partnership with Hunaniaith, Llanast Llyn will be held at different venues in Pwllheli. Beth Celyn from Denbigh will perform at the Whitehall. Then at Costa, Elidyr Glyn and Gwilym Bowen Rhyswill perform at 3pm. Then on Saturday night at 8pm, Elidyr Glyn and Bwncath appear at the Black Lion Pub whilst Phil Gas a’r Band will perform at Penlan Fawr. All of these gigs will be free.

On Saturday, 3 March, all participants should arrive at the car park by 10:30am at Swyddfa Ardal Dwyfor, Embankment Road, Pwllheli.
