Madam,
I agree totally with Mr Tomlins's plea to save the Feathers Royal as an hotel in Aberaeron.
What is it about people who insist on purchasing an old property with the sole intention of modernising or changing it into something it isn’t? I’m not sure if it’s a listed building, but if it isn’t, it certainly should be!
Perhaps our council could look into the possibility.
This hotel, opened in 1815, is one of many beautiful old buildings in Aberaeron and that is what it should remain.
As Mr Tomlins says, apart from the road access and safety problems, it is the only hotel with a large function room which can cater for large weddings and other functions.
The shops in Aberaeron can please everyone, both locals and tourists, with ice cream parlours, coffee shops, a bookshop and an excellent mini supermarket, a first-class delicatessen/coffee shop and even a shoe shop, plus a butcher’s and a cycle shop - surely enough for any seaside town, even an award-winning one.
Why would anyone want to spoil the beauty of this town with its painted houses and harbour? This is why we get tourists to this area, to see places which are different, not a copycat town where all the streets have the same shops, the same pubs.
If you want a supermarket in which to shop then there are plenty to choose from, just don’t bother looking in Aberaeron.
I do hope that any potential purchaser will see sense and realise that this plan is a non-starter and, if they don’t, well then, our council should do the right thing and reject these unwelcome plans.
Yours etc, Sue Slocombe, Llanon.
