Madam,
Following the disclosure in the Cambrian News of 24 November ‘Undemocratic residential home plan changed’.
Plans to allow Ceredigion social services director to agree with the private provider what services should be provided at Aberystwyth Bodlondeb Home have been changed.
Parry Davies, the social services director, had asked for delegated authority to agree a contract with a private provider. But Cabinet members will now make a decision on what should be included in a contract with the private provider which takes over the home.As county councillor Ceredig Davies said “If you take that decision you’re going against democracy” and “you are going down a very dangerous path” “to delegate it to two cabinet members and officer”.This is not the first time that Cllr Davies has intervened so that Bodlondeb home’s future goes in the right direction.I ask the question, why had they not dotted the i’s and crossed the t’s before they put in place these structures? If they had a strategy, what was the alterna-tive if they could not fulfil the goal?Does the council know that it has caused so much stress and anguish. Bodlondeb residential home is the major and only home in Aberystwyth borough which can provide a never-ending service for those who have physical and mental health needs.
To Ceredigion county council cabinet I say, as you enjoy your festive Christmas, don’t forget those who should be at Bodlondeb.
It is a sad reflection that 10 years ago all the bedrooms were occupied. I will visit Bodlondeb on Christmas day and spend time with 10 residents when there should be 50.
Yours etc
