Talybont (187-6) lost to Aberaeron (218)

ABERAERON were put into bat after losing the toss against Talybont, but the visitors managed to post 218 all out with a fine half-century from Hywel Rees - who then took three wickets to limit the hosts to 187 for 6 in the West Wales Conference.

After losing opener John Fice, there were solid contributions all round for Aberaeron, with David Grinszpan and Chris Strange putting on 65 runs for the second wicket. Strange was bowled by Joseff Joshi for 33, having struck 5 fours and a six, and with the score on 80, Grinszpan was run out for 31.

The scoring continued at a steady rate when Steff Rees and Hywel Rees came together to add another 54 to the total, before the younger Rees was caught behind for 27 by Sojan Varghese from the bowling of Tibby Joseph.

Rees senior reached his half century, having struck 9 fours, before he was run out by Philip Abraham for 51, making it 190 for 5.

Alexander Pitchford made 26 and Neil Snowdon was 20 not out at the end of the innings, despite wickets falling to Graison John (4 for 51) and Philip Abraham (2 for 37), with keeper Varghese claiming three catches.

Talybont’s opening batsmen Ben Harper (18) and Graison John (47) showed potential to chase down their target, but Aberaeron’s bowlers remained on top, despite further contributions from Dave Shaun (16) and Phil Abraham (17) in keeping things moving.

Paul Hughes returned 2 wickets for 15, and Hywel Rees 3 for 33, but Vinod Matthew (31 not out) and Huw Chambers (19 not out) remained unbeaten at the end of the 40 overs, as they finished 31 runs short of victory.
