ABERYSTWYTH University Commoners could have lost ground to league leaders Aberystwyth in the race for the West Wales Cricket Conference title after suffering a surprise two-wicket defeat against Talybont, but the wet weather intervened once again and forced the cancellation of Aber’s match on Sunday against Dolgellau.
The Commoners were looking good as they finished on 196-4, but Talybont stuck to their task and secured a well-deserved success with a couple of wickets to spare on 198-8.
Mark Slater (44), Abishek Somani (40) and skipper Ian Lawton, who also scored 40, were in the runs for the Commoners with Paul Abrahams taking 2-28 for Talybont.
Tibin Joseph (42), Dave Barrow (37) and Anand Sharma (35) helped Talybont pass the winning post against the bowling of Lawton (3-38) and Aidan Reveley (2-39).
Aberaeron got the cobwebs out of their system with their first match after a month on the sidelines ending in a 15-run victory against Llanwrda.
