IOAN Humphreys headed home the only goal as Aberaeron were edged out of the Spar Mid Wales League Cup with a 1-0 defeat against Carno at Ty Brith.

The visitors had started well and within five minutes Mikey Gornall put Matty Davies through on goal, but his shot was saved by the home keeper.

This brought the home team to life and Barry Edwards had to be at his best in making a couple of very smart saves.

Peter Rees had the first chance for the Greens, but headed wide after 10 minutes, and moments later, Rees had another header tipped over the crossbar.

At the other end, Kris Williams stood tall to save in a one-on-one situation, but Ben Jones had a long-range effort saved as Carno looked to make the breakthrough.

The deadlock was broken after half an hour when Jordan Jones swung in a corner, and veteran Colin Reynolds headed back across goal for Ioan Humphreys to head the ball home from 12 yards.

Ashley Owen could have put the hosts 2-0 up on the stroke of half time, but he saw his shot well saved.

In a tight second half, both teams failed to create many clear cut chances, although Gregg Brown saw his effort hit the side netting after going around the goalkeeper.

Peter Rees also had a goal-bound shot blocked, but in the final minutes, it needed a fantastic block from Reynolds to deny the visiting side as the Greens kept their fifth clean sheet in a row.

Machynlleth bowed out as they slipped to 4-2 defeat against Llanrheadr as goals from Glenn Evans, Marc Griffiths, with a brace, and an Iain Edmunds penalty sealed the home victory.

Harry Holt and Sion Williams scored for Machynlleth.

Joey Price scored twice as Radnor Valley marched on with a 2-1 win over Dyffryn Banw, who found the net through Alan Williams.
