ABERAERON travelled to face Waterloo Rovers with only a bare minimum of 11 players, and according to stand-in manager Jason Jones their future in the Spar Mid Wales League looks threatened if this lack of commitment continues.
Jones was forced to take the reins after previous manager Alan Folignio left the position mid-season, citing a lack of dedication from players as one of his reasons for leaving.
Jones described the commitment at the club as a “massive problem,” with the reserves also struggling to get a team out.
“It’s tough having to travel to Waterloo any time, but with only 11 players and a string of regulars missing it was a very big ask. The quicker they realise we are in a bit of a dog-fight the better,” he said.
Gareth Severs netted for Aberaeron, but Waterloo sealed a 2-1 win with a goal in each half from Andrew Gwilt, with Scott Holley also hitting the bar for Rovers.
Bow Street maintained winning ways as goals by Tom Williams and Andrew Gittens earned them an important 2-1 home win over bottom club Montgomery.
Looking to consolidate their mid-table standing, Street followed up their win at Waterloo with a workmanlike display, and despite the visitors netting through Lee Jones, they were worthy winners.
Arron Lemon’s second half strike kept Penrhyncoch hard on the heels of leaders Knighton Town, ahead of Saturday’s crunch top of the table showdown, with a crucial 1-0 away win at Llanrhaeadr.
Clear cut chances were in short supply, but the villagers had their openings in the first half through Wayne Austin, Iwan Matthews, Tom Evans and Chris Aitken.
Penrhyn defended stoutly, and made the decisive breakthrough in the second half when Josh Shaw’s ball eluded the defence and Lemon nipped in to slot home.
Knighton maintained their charge with an emphatic 8-0 win over a depleted Machynlleth. Connor Bird led the way with five goals, and Mark Jones, Robbie Steele and Adam Farmer also found the net.
A goal in each half by Peter Rees earned Carno a 2-0 win over Llandrindod Wells at Ty Brith, whilst a Ben Richards hat-trick and a Kevin Evans goal earned a Tywyn/Bryncrug a 4-1 win over Welshpool.
