ABERAERON got off the mark in the MMP Mid Wales League division one on Wednesday night as they beat Ceredigion rivals Bow Street 2-0 to notch their first league points of the new campaign.

After back-to-back defeats on their travels at Llandrindod and Caersws, the Seagulls were keen to kick-start their season, and some great individual performances, especially from the youngsters, set the platform for a solid home win.

It was experienced striker Mattie Davies who secured the points with both goals in tricky conditions, as last season’s Spar Mid Wales League Cup winners remained without a win in four games.

The Seagulls had to play most of the game with a man short after defender Nathan Pemberthy was shown the red card for violent conduct - a decision hotly contested by the home players - after the ball had been thrown at a visiting player.

Within minutes of the sending off Aberaeron went into the lead when they were awarded a soft looking penalty, and the ball was gleefully dispatched by Davies.

Bow Street enjoyed most of the possession after this, and were presented with a couple of decent chances, but they were well dealt with by home goalkeeper Barry Edwards, including a top drawer save.

The second half saw Aberaeron create a few more chances with Elwyn Edwards, Dan James and Matty Davies coming very close to extending the lead, before another flashpoint saw visiting striker Ifan Burrell sent off for a heavy challenge.

Steff Gittins played a deft one touch pass that released Davies on goal, only to be pulled down for a penalty, with Llyr Hughes receiving a red card. Davies confidently dispatched to seal the 2-0 win.

Radnor Valley are also flying high after they registered a 3-2 midweek win over previously unbeaten Llandrindod Wells.

Elliot Morris fired Radnor ahead on 10 minutes with a fine 25 yard strike, but the Wellmen levelled before the break when Robbie Nichols’ corner found Gareth Jones at the back post to prod home.

The visitors took the lead when Ryan Sims made a driving run to the edge of the box and found Shane Pritchard to tap home, but Radnor hit back when a corner, taken by Liam Jones and was met by Craig Pigott to equalise on 60 minutes.

The winner arrived on 75 minutes when Elliot Morris’ surging run from deep found him in space and from 25 yards he found the corner of the net to make it 3-2.

Tempers boiled over in the last five minutes as both teams picked up red cards in a hotly contested Radnorshire derby.

Connor Bird scored twice as Llanidloes Town continued their promising start with a 2-1 win in their midweek derby at Carno, who netted through Andy Evans.

Phil Jones scored the winner for Caersws in a 3-2 win over Tywyn/Bryncrug, having twice been behind. Tom Allen and Ethan Rodgers netted for the hosts, but Mark Edmondson and Aled Jones both equalised against their former club.

Goals from Ash Davies, Paul Griffiths and Toby Evans earned Llanfair United a 3-0 win over Llansantffraid, whilst goals from Max Mclaughlin, Chris Carroll and Ben Davies earned Kerry a 3-0 home win over Berriew.

Mark Jones scored four goals for Builth Wells in a 5-0 win over Knighton, with Josh Price also on target, and a goal from Ricky Litchfield secured Welshpool Town a 1-0 away win at Churchstoke.
