ABERAERON stunned MMP Mid Wales League division one leaders Caersws as they registered a superb 3-2 win over the high-flying Bluebirds last weekend.
Goals from Ifan Burrell, Gareth Severs and James Hemming secured the points for the Ceredigion hosts, to end Caersws’ perfect record away from home this term.
Aberaeron lead 2-0 after 25 minutes, but the league leaders fought back and halved the deficit through a Rhydian Davies penalty, awarded for handball, before returning top scorer Mark Edmondson brought the visitors back onto level terms before the half-time interval.
Hemming put Aberaeron ahead again early in the second half and goalkeeper Oliver Farebrother, playing his first game back in goal after a transfer from Penrhyncoch, made some great saves as the hosts held on for an excellent home win in the very difficult, windy conditions.
Aberaeron, who are up to seventh in the table, will be hoping to maintain momentum this weekend at home to Llanidloes Town, whose title pursuit also suffered with 5-2 defeat to chief rivals Berriew.
Both sides had gone into the encounter in good form, but the Rhiewsiders adapted better to the mudbath pitch as they ran out convincing winners to underline their title credentials.
It was a day to forget for the visitors, who leaked poor goals in the drenched conditions, with Marc Jones, from the penalty spot, Joe Haycock, Richard Davies, with a brace, and Tomos Williams all finding the net for Berriew.
The visitors replied through an own goal and Connor Bird.
Welshpool remain fourth in the table after they registered a solid 4-0 home win over Bow Street on Friday, with Will Thomas scoring twice, along with an Ian Probert penalty and a Steve Jones goal.
Llanfair United beat Tywyn/Bryncrug 3-0, with Josh Astley opening their scoring. An own goal followed before the interval, and Karl Seliaerts then sealed the three points from the penalty spot.
Goals by Michael Collister, Robert Nicholls and Samed De Groot, with a brace, earned Llandrindod a 4-2 win at Kerry, with the hosts scoring through a Luke Mumford free-kick and Ben Hendleman.
A Josh Matthews goal earned Carno a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw at home to Radnor Valley, with Joey Price netting the reply, whilst goals by Nathan Buckley and Tom Gale earned Llansantffraid Village a 2-0 win away at Churchstoke.
