Pontypridd United 1 Aberystwyth Town 3

ABERYSTWYTH Town continued their impressive start to the season with a deserved 3-1 victory away to third-placed Pontypridd United on Saturday.
The Seasiders took an early lead when Rhys Lewis burst through on goal and saw his shot rebound off the post before Liam Angel inadvertently turned the ball into his own net after just seven minutes.
Backed by another strong travelling support in South Wales, Aberystwyth looked dangerous on the break and nearly doubled their advantage before half-time. Dan Owen and Lewis both went close, while Leo Thompson's set-piece deliveries regularly troubled the home defence.
Pontypridd threatened primarily from corners and free-kicks, but goalkeeper Luke Evans dealt confidently with everything thrown his way as Aber carried a narrow 1-0 advantage into the break.
The visitors strengthened their position 10 minutes into the second half. Thompson's free-kick caused problems in the box, Dillon Browne headed the ball back across goal and Tomos Evans was on hand to convert from close range for his third goal of the season.
However, Aber's lead was cut almost immediately. Kofi Rowe delivered a cross from the left and Jack Bevan applied the finishing touch to make it 2-1 and set up a tense finale.
The Black and Greens continued to create chances despite Ponty's pressure. Aaron Williams came closest when he curled a superb effort against the crossbar before later being denied from close range. Jamie Veale also struck the woodwork for the hosts as the game swung from end to end.
Pontypridd pushed hard for an equaliser during the closing stages, but Aber defended resolutely. Ben Davies produced a standout performance, while Luke Evans made key saves and Harry Cotham made two crucial late clearances to preserve the lead.
The result was finally secured deep into stoppage time. After Ponty committed players forward for a corner, Davies launched a rapid counter-attack, carrying the ball the length of the pitch before finding Williams, who calmly finished with the final kick of the match to spark celebrations among the travelling supporters.
While the scoreline suggests a comfortable afternoon, the contest was far closer than the final result indicates. Nevertheless, Craig Williams' side once again showed resilience, organisation and clinical finishing to claim another impressive victory.
The win keeps Aberystwyth second in the Novira Cymru South table, just one point behind leaders Pure Swansea, and provides further evidence that the Seasiders are genuine title contenders.
They return to Park Avenue next Saturday when Caerau Ely are the visitors.
