FOOTBALL coach from Bala, Alasdair Hamilton, has teamed up with Robbie Savage at relaunched club Macclesfield FC.

The Silkmen were wound up in the High Court and expelled from the National League last year, following unpaid debts of more than £500,000.

The club was bought by local businessman Robert Smethurst, with former Leicester and Wales midfielder Savage named director of football.

They will compete in the North West Counties Premier Division next season.

Alasdair joins from sixth-tier Chorley FC where he was responsible for the conditioning of the players who enjoyed a remarkable FA Cup run, knocked out in the fourth round by Premier League Wolves.

Before that they had beaten Wayne Rooney’s Derby County, Peterborough and Wigan Athletic.

His work didn’t go unnoticed as Alasdair, who attended Ysgol Bro Tegid and Ysgol y Berwyn, in Bala, before furthering his education at Aberystwyth University and Bangor University, has now been appointed full time head sport scientist/ strength and conditioning coach with Macclesfield.

He said: “I am pleased to have been offered the position at growing club Macclesfield FC, with brand new ownership, brand new stadium, gym, restaurant and bar; it was a offer I could not turn down.

“The challenge has been set to myself of being the go-to person from Under-7s to first team for conditioning and preventing injury of all players.

“Having the publicity of Robbie Savage and being a previous League Two team, the optimism around the area is huge."

Commenting on Wales’ 1-0 defeat at the hands of Italy when they battled bravely for half an hour after Ethan Ampadu’s red card, he said: ”Holding onto the high intensity, pressing, and team work after the sending off, highlighted the importance of sports science and conditioning to a team.

“In this day and age all players must be as physically skilled as they are technically skilled.”

He added: “As a framework and philosophy set by Macclesfield, everything builds together to make the best players.

“I am looking to see the development at the club and what I can show and do to support.”
