BOW STREET produced a battling display as they ended the year with a hard-earned goalless draw with third-placed Carno at Cae Piod in the Spar Mid Wales Division One on New Year’s Eve.
In a game of few chances, Richie Evans and Ioan Humphreys had the best two openings of the first half for the visitors, and Harry Holt also had a goal ruled out.
Bow Street created the best chance of the second half, but keeper Kris Williams made a smart save with his feet, whilst at the other end Ben Jones saw a late effort go straight at the keeper off a corner as the Greens failed to score for the first time this season.
Aberaeron ended the year in seventh place in the table after they settled for a 2-2 draw away at Tywyn/Bryncrug, with Sion Clarke and David Evans netting for the visitors, and Tom Allen Davies and Aled Jones for the hosts.
Berriew extended their unbeaten run to 17 games, to end 2016 top of division one, as a hat-trick from Karl Seliaerts and a Richard Davies goal sealed a 4-1 win over Machynlleth, who scored first in the first half through Andrew Page.
Rhayader remain level on points after two goals by Ifan Burrell, his first a penalty, and singles by Gareth Hughes, Richard Powell and a Tom Bethell penalty sealed a 5-3 win over Llandrindod Wells, who netted through Elliot Williams, Ryan Sims and Shaun Nicholls.
Radnor Valley, who announced that manager Steve Pigott is standing down, to be replaced by Paul Morgan, eased to a 6-0 win over Montgomery, with a hat-trick from Geraint Lloyd, two from Joe Price and one from Lewis Morris.
Knighton beat Hay St Mary’s 2-1 with a Danny Ives header and an Adam Worton free kick, after Steve Morgan had levelled matters.The previous evening had seen Welshpool Town beaten 4-3 at home to Llanrhaeadr, who ultimately took the spoils through Glenn Evans, Iwan Matthews and two penalties by Iain Edmunds.Two penalties from player manager Neil Pryce and a header from debutant Ricky Litchfield proved to be not enough for the Lilywhites.See this week’s edition for the full Spar Mid Wales League round-up.
