A LARGE crowd attended the local derby at Bow Street, where the Magpies defeated Aberaeron 2-0, with a goal in each half on Wednesday evening.
This was the home side’s third win out of four at the start of the Spar Mid Wales League division one season, and the visitors’ third straight defeat.
Bow Street had lost their centre forward Andrew Gittins after 20 minutes of play, but they reshuffled, with Tom Wyn Roberts coming on to tighten up the defence, and Aberaeron failed to find a way through.
Steff Richards followed his two goals on Saturday by putting the home side ahead, and Street dominated the rest of the half, but were unable to add to their lead.
This domination continued in to the second period, and within 15 minutes Tomos Evans produced an excellent finish to double the home team’s advantage.
Youngster Evans, who had to fill Gittins’ lone striker’s role, had really deserved his goal for an excellent overall performance.
Street came close to extending their lead, and whilst Aberaeron produced in a spirited fightback late on, the game ended with the Magpies as deserved winners.
“We are delighted with the performance tonight,” said manager Barry Williams.
“We had to make an early change following Andrew’s injury, but everybody adjusted and we adapted really well.”
Borth United were stunned by Callum Page’s injury time winner in their 1-0 midweek defeat to local rivals Machynlleth on a sunny evening at Uppingham Fields.
The visitors have had an indifferent start to their season, whilst Borth were hoping to build on a brilliant last league outing, but it was Mach who created the better chances in a goalless opening period.
Borth threatened in the second half with Lee Jones’ free kick into the penalty area being met by Lee Crumpler, but his header only missed the goal post by inches.
Later in the half, Crumpler’s lob was palmed on to the crossbar by Mach keeper Sean Gates and cleared to safety, and missed chances proved costly at the death.
A mix-up in the Borth defence allowed Callum Page to score with a low shot passed Jamie Evans for the winning goal.
Carno registered their first win of the season with a 4-0 triumph over local rivals Llanidloes Town in midweek, as goals from Scott Williams, Peter Rees and Adam Williams, with a brace, saw the Greens register a comfortable win at Ty Brith.
Chris Davies’ side and looked threatening from the start as Peter Rees went clean through on goal, but failed to convert.
Scott Williams struck the bar off a Harry Holt corner, and Tom Richards had a volley tipped over by the Llanidloes keeper.
The first goal came just before the half hour as Adam Williams fed Scott Williams to fire home from the edge of the box.
It was 2-0 to Carno just moments later as Peter Rees poked home from close range, following a Scott Williams shot on target.
Great play from Ioan Humphreys and Harry Holt saw Peter Rees fire over from a few yards out as Carno looked to extend their advantage, and minutes before half time they got their third goal of the game.
Ioan Humphreys nodded down for Adam Williams to curl home from just inside the area, to leave the Daffs reeling.
The game was over five minutes into the second half as Andrew Evans hit the post with a free kick, and Adam Williams was on hand though to tap the ball home from close range, to put this match to bed.
Kris Williams made one fine save to deny the visitors from close range as Carno saw out the game quite comfortably.Berriew beat Llandrindod Wells 3-1, with goals by Rob Pritchard and Richard Davies, with a brace, whilst Llanrhaeadr won 5-0 at Churchstoke, with goals from Marc Griffiths, Khyam Wyton, with a brace, Keiran Evans and Daniel Graham.
On Tuesday evening, Welshpool Town won 2-0 at Llanfair United, with goals from Ricky Litchfield and Will Thomas, whilst goals from Connor Bird, Adam Farmer and Scott Davies earned Knighton Town a 3-2 win over Radnor Valley, who replied twice through Steve Morgan.
