NEWCASTLE Emlyn got their Costcutter Ceredigion League Premier Division campaign off to a winning start with a convincing 3-0 victory over Lampeter Town Reserves at Parc Emlyn on Wednesday evening.

With Tuesday's opening fixtures already completed, Emlyn were playing catch-up but quickly showed their intentions with a disciplined and energetic display.

The breakthrough arrived in first-half stoppage time when Sam Brook found the net to give the hosts a deserved advantage at the interval.

Lampeter attempted to force their way back into the contest after the break, but Newcastle Emlyn remained solid throughout, combining strong teamwork, commitment and organisation to keep the visitors at bay.

The result was effectively secured three minutes from time when Osian Thomas doubled the hosts' lead.

There was still time for a memorable third goal as 16-year-old Luca MacMuiris marked his league debut with a stunning long-range strike to put the seal on an impressive opening-night performance.

New signing Mike Glover was another standout performer, producing an assured display at the heart of the defence and earning the Man of the Match award on his debut for the club.

Division One

Ffostrasol Reserves began their Division One campaign in emphatic fashion with a 7-1 victory over Crannog.

Andrii Solyliak was the star of the show, helping himself to five goals in a dominant display from the hosts.

Steffan Jackson and Carwyn Griffiths were also on target, while Samuel Dutnell scored Crannog's consolation goal.
